About NTM-A

The goal of NTM-A  is to support the International Security Asitance Force (ISAF ) to enable accountable Afghan-led security not later than 31 December 2014.

At the April 2009 Strasbourg-Kehl Summit, NATO Heads of State and Government decided to expand the ISAF mission to oversee higher-level training for the Afghan National Army, and training and mentoring for the Afghan National Police.

NTM-A was established in November 2009 to bring together NATO and national training efforts in this regard.

NTM-A’s purpose is to enable the Afghans to protect their people. By, with, and through the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

In support of the International Joint Command, we generate and sustain Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) to ensure maximum impact on the current fight. In support of the ANSF, we develop Afghan leaders. In support of the Afghan Ministry of Defense and Ministry of Interior, we build enduring Institutional capacity.

Throughout, we seek to see the ANSF as they are: operating forces, generating forces, and the Ministries.

Success equals Afghan small units that fight and win, tactically effective ANSF leaders, and accountable Afghan security Ministries that can direct and sustain operations.
