“This is definitely a different experience compared to my other deployments,” said Master Sgt. Johnnie Grove. “Our job takes us out and about in Kabul and even further so it’s interesting to see the local culture and people.”
A local police officer from the village of Rustum Aka alerted Soldiers from Combined Task Force Spartan’s 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, to a cache site where an 82mm recoilless rifle was hidden.
“This operation gives our Afghan counterparts the opportunity to see what they are capable of. The previous operations were almost like rehearsals leading up to this,” said Maj. Lisa Winegar.
“We established the call center to assist the people of Afghanistan,” said Col. Hamayon Ayani. “It is an easy way to contact the police and this way people should feel comfortable that they have easy access to the government.”
